Dongdaemun is a name for more than thirty separate buildings, and they do not keep the same hours. The district association’s own directory lists thirty-five. The retail malls on Jangchungdan-ro open late morning and run past midnight. The wholesale buildings a few streets east open in the evening and close at dawn, and most of them take Friday or Saturday off rather than Sunday. The fabric and shoe markets north of Cheonggyecheon are daytime businesses that shut on Sunday.
The buildings that stay open longest for individual shoppers all sit within a few minutes of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station (Lines 2, 4 and 5), Exit 14. Doota Mall, at 275 Jangchungdan-ro, trades 10:30 to midnight every day. Dongdaemun Migliore, at 263 Jangchungdan-ro, opens at 10:30 and runs to 02:00. Hello apM, at 253 Jangchungdan-ro, opens at 10:20 and closes at 01:00, with Tuesday as its closed day. Good Morning City, at Eulji-ro 6-ga 18-21, runs 10:30 to 01:00 and is also closed on Tuesday. Hyundai Outlet Dongdaemun, at 20 Jangchungdan-ro 13-gil, opens at 10:30 and is the early closer at 21:00 Monday to Thursday and 21:30 Friday to Sunday.
The wholesale buildings run on a different clock again. apM, apM Lux and apM PLACE all trade 20:00 to 05:00 and close on Friday and Saturday. Designer Club keeps the same 20:00 to 05:00 window and closes on Saturday; Nuzon runs 20:00 to 06:00. Team 204 opens once a week and stays open, from Sunday 20:00 through to Friday 05:00. Diott opens at midnight and closes at noon, with Saturday and Sunday off. North of the stream, Dongdaemun General Market works 08:30 to 19:00 on weekdays and closes on Sunday, and the Dongdaemun Shoe Market runs 03:00 to 15:00, also closed Sunday.
The Jangchungdan-ro row: Doota, Migliore, Hello apM and Hyundai Outlet
These buildings stand in a line on the Jung-gu side of the district, south of Cheonggyecheon, and they are retail malls rather than wholesale halls. Doota Mall occupies the Doosan Tower at 275 Jangchungdan-ro and carries no weekly closed day: 10:30 to midnight, Monday to Sunday, with the day before and the day of Seollal and Chuseok listed in the district directory as its closures. Its eating floors do not all follow the mall clock. The Food Atelier on B2 stops at 22:00 with last orders at 21:30, the Shake Shack on the ground floor runs to midnight, the Starbucks on the second floor to 23:30, the Jamba Juice on the third to midnight, and the Compose Coffee on B1 opens at 08:00, two and a half hours before the shops.
Dongdaemun Migliore, in the Migliore Building at 263 Jangchungdan-ro, opens at 10:30 and trades to 02:00. Monday is the day to check before travelling. The district association’s directory lists Migliore as closed on Mondays, while a night-shopping feature on Seoul’s official travel guide instead describes a Monday that begins at 19:00 and gives a later closing time than the directory does. The two descriptions differ, but both rule out a Monday afternoon, and the directory is the more conservative of the two on the closing hour.
Hello apM at 253 Jangchungdan-ro shares a name with the wholesale apM group further east and keeps entirely different hours: 10:20 to 01:00, with the closure running from midnight on Tuesday until it reopens at 10:20 on Wednesday. Good Morning City, at Eulji-ro 6-ga 18-21, sits on the same Tuesday cycle at 10:30 to 01:00. Hyundai Outlet Dongdaemun, at 20 Jangchungdan-ro 13-gil, is the outlier of the group, closing at 21:00 from Monday to Thursday and 21:30 from Friday to Sunday, with Seollal and Chuseok themselves as its only listed closures. Myeongdong divides the same way under a single retail name: the nine Olive Young branches inside Myeongdong carry different ranges and different opening times, one of them from 09:30.
apM, apM Lux and apM PLACE trade 20:00 to 05:00 and close Friday and Saturday
The three apM wholesale buildings are separate addresses rather than wings of one mall. apM is at 40 Majang-ro, apM Lux is in the Nine Plus building at 51 Toegye-ro 73-gil, and apM PLACE is at 276 Eulji-ro. All three carry the same entry in the district directory: 20:00 to 05:00 the following morning, closed on Friday and Saturday.
The buildings reopen on Sunday at 20:00 and then trade every night through to Friday at 05:00, so the trading week here ends on Friday morning rather than at the weekend. Friday and Saturday nights are the two nights when all three are dark.
Two neighbouring buildings keep the same shape of night with different edges. Designer Club, at 72 Eulji-ro 45-gil, matches the 20:00 to 05:00 window but lists Saturday alone as its closed day. Nuzon, at 62 Eulji-ro 45-gil, runs an hour longer at 20:00 to 06:00, and its directory entry describes the weekly break as running from 18:00 on Saturday to 20:00 on Sunday. Sunday evening to Thursday night gives the widest choice across all five.
Team 204, Diott, Maxstyle and Jeil Pyeonghwa each keep a different week
Team 204, at 30 Majang-ro, is listed as one continuous session rather than a nightly one. It opens on Sunday at 20:00 and closes on Friday at 05:00, then stays shut until the following Sunday evening.
Diott, at 293 Dasan-ro in Sindang-dong, inverts the usual wholesale window. It opens at midnight and closes at noon, so it is still trading when the 05:00 buildings have emptied. Saturday and Sunday are its closed days.
Maxstyle, at 3 Majang-ro, splits the day into two sessions, 10:00 to 17:00 and 20:00 to 05:00, and closes on Sunday. Jeil Pyeonghwa, at 13 Majang-ro, runs a similar two-shift pattern from Monday to Thursday, with 09:00 to 17:30, a break until 20:00, then trading through to 05:00. Friday there is daytime only, ending at 17:30, and Saturday runs 09:00 to 17:00. Its own directory entry is not internally consistent about Sunday, listing a Sunday 20:00 session in the hours field and naming Sunday as the closed day, so Sunday at Jeil Pyeonghwa is not something the published listing settles.
Three separate night windows follow from these schedules. On Monday to Thursday nights, between 20:00 and midnight, the apM buildings, Designer Club, Nuzon, Maxstyle and Team 204 are all trading. From midnight Diott joins them. After 05:00 the apM buildings, Designer Club, Maxstyle and Team 204 have closed, Nuzon runs on to 06:00, and Diott, the lower floors of Nampyeonghwa and Cheongpyeonghwa keep going until noon, while nothing on the retail side opens until Hello apM at 10:20.
Pyeonghwa Market, Sinpyeonghwa, Nampyeonghwa and Cheongpyeonghwa split hours by floor
The Pyeonghwa buildings are older market halls rather than towers, and several of them list different hours for different floors. Pyeonghwa Market itself, at 274 Cheonggyecheon-ro, is given as 22:00 through to 18:00 the following day by both the district directory and Seoul’s official travel guide, but those sources do not agree on the weekly break. The directory gives every Sunday plus Friday night between 18:00 and 09:00; Seoul’s guide and the national tourism agency both give Saturday 18:00 to Sunday 22:00 instead. All three rule out Sunday during the day. Its stock is broad: men’s, women’s and children’s clothing, outerwear, swimwear, hats, belts, scarves, socks, bags, ties, towels, umbrellas, work clothes and shoes, spread over three selling floors. Seoul’s guide describes the customer base as mostly the merchants inside the market, and the night hours as timed so that what they buy can be on display the following morning.
Sinpyeonghwa Fashion Town, at 298 Cheonggyecheon-ro, divides its clock vertically. The basement, ground and fourth floors run from 21:00 to 17:00 the next day, while the second and third floors stop at 10:00. It is closed on Friday and Saturday. Nampyeonghwa, at 282-10 Jangchungdan-ro, does the same thing with a different split, the lower two levels running midnight to noon and the second and third floors 20:00 to 05:00, also closed Friday and Saturday. Bags fill its basement and ground floor, with young casual clothing on the second and jeans and women’s wear on the third.
Cheongpyeonghwa, at 334 Cheonggyecheon-ro, is the latest opener of the four at 23:00, closing at noon, with Saturday and Sunday off. Its six selling levels, B1 up to the fifth floor, carry women’s clothing on every floor, described in the directory as young casual and missy wear, with the sixth floor given over to management offices rather than shops.
The fabric and shoe markets north of Cheonggyecheon are daytime businesses
Crossing the stream changes the clock completely. Dongdaemun General Market, at 266 Jongno in Jongno-gu, opens at 08:30 and closes at 19:00 on weekdays and 17:00 on Saturday, with Sunday off; its home-interior and wedding-goods sections operate only in part during the first and third weeks of the month and close entirely in the second and fourth. Seven levels from B1 to the sixth floor hold fabric and garment supplies rather than finished fashion: bolts of cloth, thread and sewing supplies, interfacing, beads and semi-precious stones, curtains and curtain fittings, bedding, towels, hair goods and shoes. Its whole trading day is over by 19:00, an hour before the wholesale buildings on the other bank open at 20:00.
The Dongdaemun Shoe Market, at 307 Cheonggyecheon-ro on the same northern bank, runs from 03:00 to 15:00 and closes on Sunday. It is trading at the hour when the wholesale fashion buildings are shutting, and has finished for the day before the retail malls reach their evening hours.
Both sit closer to Dongdaemun Station (Lines 1 and 4) than to Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, and the walk between the two clusters crosses Cheonggyecheon on foot in a few minutes.
Saturday night and Sunday, when most of the wholesale district is shut
A Saturday evening arrival finds apM, apM Lux, apM PLACE, Designer Club, Nuzon, Team 204, Diott, Sinpyeonghwa, Nampyeonghwa and Cheongpyeonghwa all closed. Pyeonghwa Market is the one building where the answer depends on which listing is used: the district directory has it opening at 22:00 on Saturday, while Seoul’s guide and the national tourism agency put it inside its weekly break until Sunday evening. What is open for certain is the retail row: Doota until midnight, Hello apM and Good Morning City until 01:00, Migliore until 02:00, and Hyundai Outlet Dongdaemun until 21:30. Maxstyle, closed only on Sunday, is the one wholesale building still running its 20:00 to 05:00 session.
Sunday runs the other way round. The daytime markets north of the stream, the General Market and the Shoe Market, are closed, as is Maxstyle, while the wholesale buildings start reopening from 20:00. A Sunday afternoon in Dongdaemun leaves the retail malls and Dongdaemun Design Plaza, at 281 Eulji-ro, which opens 10:00 to 20:00 with free general admission, charges separately for some exhibitions and events, and closes only on New Year’s Day and the days of Seollal and Chuseok. The Sunday closure is not particular to Dongdaemun: the handmade shoe district in Seongsu keeps its sales points on 10:00 to 19:00 and shuts on Sunday as well.
Two weekday closures are worth putting in a calendar alongside the weekend pattern: Hello apM and Good Morning City are both closed on Tuesday, and Migliore’s directory entry gives Monday as its closed day. The Dongdaemun Tourist Information Centre stands in front of Exit 14 of Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, 116 metres from the retail row, with staff working in English, Japanese and Chinese.
