A teamLab Borderless ticket admits you once, at a start time you choose when you buy it, and the museum does not let you back in once you leave. There are no restaurants or cafes inside, and there is no limit on how long you can stay after you are admitted, so the decision the ticket really forces is when you eat, not which ticket you buy.
Two other things decide more than the price does. The Borderless described in older articles was in Odaiba and closed in August 2022; teamLab’s own page for that venue says it is “Newly re-opening at Azabudai Hills in Central Tokyo.” And Borderless is not teamLab Planets. Planets is a separate museum in Toyosu, in a different ward, with its own tickets, its own hours and a published end date.
The ticket you buy at the door costs 200 yen more than the same ticket bought first
GO TOKYO, the official Tokyo travel guide published by the Tokyo Convention & Visitors Bureau, lists Borderless admission as “from 3,800 yen” for adults aged 18 and over, 2,800 yen for ages 13 to 17, 1,500 yen for ages 4 to 12, and free for age 3 and under. It adds one line that no ticket page puts in front of you: “An additional 200 yen will be charged for any ticket purchased on-site.”
The word from in “from 3,800 yen” is doing work. The adult price is a floor, not a fixed fare, so the figure you see when you open the ticket store on a given date may be higher than that floor. What the on-site surcharge does is add a flat 200 yen on top of whatever that day’s figure turns out to be: an adult paying the floor price online pays 3,800 yen, and the same adult buying at the museum pays 4,000 yen.
teamLab’s own general-information and ticket pages load their fee table by script, and that table did not render on either page. The figures above are the ones GO TOKYO publishes, on a page it stamps as updated 19 February 2026. Treat them as the public-sector guide’s figures rather than as a quotation from the ticket store.
Two passes exist, and the difference is a deadline rather than the art
teamLab’s FAQ for Borderless names two products: an Entrance Pass and a Flexible Pass. Nothing in the FAQ says they show you different artworks. What they change is how late you may move your booking.
The FAQ states that the date on a ticket “may be changed up to 3 times,” and that the cut-off differs by product: for the Entrance Pass it is “2 hours before the reserved entry time,” and for the Flexible Pass it is “2 hours before the museum’s last entry time.” A Flexible Pass therefore keeps its change window open for the whole operating day rather than expiring two hours before one fixed slot.
Three further limits sit alongside that. Changing to a different ticket type is not permitted as part of a date change. “In general, tickets cannot be canceled once purchased.” And a change fails if “the requested date/time is sold out or has insufficient availability,” which is the same constraint that decides whether you can buy at all: “If not sold out, tickets can be purchased on the day of the event through the official ticket website.”
One entry, no cafe, and the gift workshop is in a different building
The FAQ is blunt on two points that shape a visit more than the price does. “Re-entry is not permitted.” And “There is no limit on how long you can stay in the museum after admission.” Those two sentences pull in opposite directions: you may stay as long as you like, but stepping out to find lunch ends the visit.
The third sentence closes the gap: “There are no restaurants or cafes. Vending machines are available at the venue.” Drinks are covered; a meal is not. Eat before you go in.
One attraction turns on this. teamLab Sketch Factory Azabudai turns drawings made inside the exhibition into physical items, and teamLab’s page for it puts it on the B1 floor of Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza A, “outside of teamLab Borderless.” GO TOKYO places Borderless itself in Garden Plaza B. Those are two different buildings in the same complex, so visiting the Sketch Factory is an exit. Its hours are 10:00 to 21:30, and it closes on the same days as Borderless.
Strollers are also handled outside the galleries: “No strollers are permitted. Please leave them in the luggage room.”
Kamiyacho exit 5 is two minutes away, and the building letter is the part to check
GO TOKYO gives the access as Kamiyacho Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, exit 5, two minutes on foot, and the address as Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza B, B1F, 1-2-4 Azabudai, Minato City.
Azabudai Hills is a complex of several buildings, and the letter after “Garden Plaza” is not decoration. Borderless is in Garden Plaza B, on the first basement level. The Sketch Factory is in Garden Plaza A, on the same level of a different building. Because admission is tied to a start time rather than being open all day, walking to the wrong letter comes out of your slot.
The published hours are 9:00 to 21:00, and GO TOKYO gives the last admission as 20:00, one hour before closing. Planets, for comparison, runs 8:00 to 22:00 with last entry one hour before closing, so its final admission is 21:00 – an hour later than the point at which Borderless has stopped letting anyone in.
Borderless and Planets are two museums, and only one of them has an announced ending
The two are booked separately and sit in different wards – Minato City and Koto-ku. teamLab’s own page for Planets publishes a full fee table and an exhibition period; the Borderless equivalent did not load.

Planets also sells a Premium Pass at 12,000 yen for ages 4 and over, which teamLab describes as giving priority entry without a designated admission time, and states its exhibition period as “July 7, 2018 – End of 2027.” Borderless publishes no comparable end date on the official pages.
What the official pages do not settle
Three things stayed unanswered. teamLab’s FAQ does not address resale, so nothing above should be read as a rule about third-party tickets. It does not publish prices by age, which is why the figures above come from GO TOKYO instead. And the Sketch Factory page does not publish its own price or say whether a Borderless ticket is required to use it.
The one closing day pattern that is published is Planets’: the teamLab page names Thursday 1 October and Thursday 5 November. Borderless is described by GO TOKYO only as closing irregularly, which means the date you want has to be checked against the ticket store rather than against a weekly rule.
